AI approach optimizes embryo selection for IVF

AI approach optimizes embryo selection for IVF

A new artificial intelligence approach can identify with a great degree of accuracy whether a 5-day-old, in vitro fertilized human embryo has a high potential to progress to a successful pregnancy. The technique, which analyzes time-lapse images of the early-stage embryos, could improve the success rate of in vitro fertilization and minimize the risk of multiple pregnancies.

Learning to drive like a human

Humans have a remarkable ability to learn to drive quickly and can obtain a licence to drive across a whole country after tens of hours of practice. But after 10 years of commercial self-driving car development, over 10 million autonomous miles and $5B per year spent, we still do not have commercial self-driving vehicles on our roads.

Machine learning could eliminate unnecessary treatments for children

Arthritis is not just an ailment of old age - it can affect children too, causing lifelong pain and disability in its most severe forms. Fortunately, some kids grow out of it. Even so, knowing which patients will develop milder forms of disease could spare them unnecessary treatment and potential medication side-effects. However, doctors currently have no way of predicting the disease's course or severity.
